How to add a cookie consent banner to WordPress using a plugin

Introduction

This guide explains how to add a cookie consent banner to WordPress using the GDPR Cookie Consent plugin. This helps to make your site compliant with privacy laws, including the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Requirements

WordPress Admin Account.

Skill Level

Basic knowledge of WordPress.

Instructions

Time needed: 5 minutes.

  1. Log into WordPress Admin.

    This is usually accessed via yourdomain.com/wp-admin.

  2. Go to the Add Plugins page.

  3. Search for the GDPR Cookie Consent plugin.

  4. Install the GDPR Cookie Consent plugin.

  5. Activate the GDPR Cookie Consent plugin.

    After the plugin has installed, click Activate in the GDPR Cookie Consent listing.

  6. Review the settings.

    In the GDPR Cookie Consent listing on the Plugins page, click Settings.
    If necessary, update the settings. If you want to disable the banner while you’re making changes, click General > Cookie Bar, select the Off radio button for the Cookie Bar is currently option, and click Update Settings.GDPR Cookie Consent Settings link - screenshot
