This guide explains how to submit a sitemap in Google Search Console. This is likely to speed up Google showing your site in search results, and allows you to see analysis of the sitemap so you can improve SEO.
Requirements
- A Google User Account with full access to the site in Google Search Console. If you haven’t already got this, see How to verify your site in Google Search Console using Google Analytics or Tag Manager.
- A sitemap URL for your site. If you don’t already have a sitemap set up, see How to install the Yoast SEO plugin in WordPress or How to create a sitemap in Magento.

This guide explains how to submit a sitemap in Google Search Console. This is likely to speed up Google showing your site in search results, and allows you to see analysis of the sitemap so you can improve SEO.
- Go to the Google Search Console page.
Go to https://search.google.com/search-console/
If you’re not already logged in, enter the email or phone number associated with the Google Account which has access to Google Search Console for your site. Click Next, then enter your password and click Next. - Make sure the correct site is selected.
If you have more than one Property (site) set up in Search Console, click the Property drop down at the top left and click the correct Property.
- Click Sitemaps.
In the left menu click Sitemaps.
- Enter the sitemap URL.
In the Enter sitemap URL field, enter the URL for the sitemap (or sitemap index). This is usually sitemap.xml or sitemap_index.xml. If you’re using the Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress, it’s sitemap_index.xml.
Click Submit.
